Poker Hand Rankings — Online Poker Basics

You cannot play online poker well without knowing poker hand rankings. This guide lists every combination from strongest to weakest on Hold'em and Omaha tables at Baatryn Öröö.

Why rankings matter

Poker is not pure luck. You build the best five-card hand from your cards plus community cards. Stronger hand wins. Ties break on kicker (side card).

Beginners in Mongolia often confuse Flush vs Full House — costly at the table.

Rankings (strongest first)

Rank Example Notes
Royal Flush A♠ K♠ Q♠ J♠ 10♠ Best possible
Straight Flush 9♥ 8♥ 7♥ 6♥ 5♥ Same suit, sequence
Four of a Kind Q♣ Q♥ Q♦ Q♠ 4♦ Four of one rank
Full House J♣ J♥ J♠ 8♦ 8♥ Three + pair
Flush A♠ J♠ 8♠ 5♠ 2♠ Five same suit
Straight Q♣ J♦ 10♥ 9♠ 8♦ Sequence, mixed suits
Three of a Kind 8♣ 8♠ 8♦ K♣ 4♥ Trips
Two Pair K♣ K♥ 9♦ 9♥ 10♦ Two pairs
One Pair 4♦ 4♥ K♣ J♥ 9♦ Single pair
High Card K♥ J♥ 8♣ 7♦ 4♠ No made hand

Hold'em — how hands form

You get 2 hole cards + up to 5 board cards. Pick the best 5-card combo — you may ignore 2 cards.

Example: Hole A♠ K♠, board Q♠ J♠ 10♠ → Royal Flush.

Omaha difference

Four hole cards in Omaha. You must use exactly 2 from hand + 3 from board. More quads and full houses — see Hold'em vs Omaha.

Beginner mistakes

  • Thinking Straight beats Flush
  • Forgetting kicker on two pair
  • Assuming board pair is «your» pair
